The Project Goes Underground: A New Phase Begins

Anyone visiting Messepark right now is in for a special experience. While construction work is progressing outside to shape the future of Messepark, inside you'll still find the familiar shopping experience with around 60 shops, cafés and restaurants – perfect for relaxed shopping, strolling and dining. On the second floor, a panoramic viewing window also offers a unique glimpse of one of Austria's most modern construction sites.

The first major milestone has now been reached. The demolition of the first section was completed safely and on schedule, paving the way for the next phase of the project. Excavation work for the new underground parking garage has now begun on the former East Parking Lot, marking the start of construction below ground.

“A construction project of this scale while the shopping center remains fully operational is an extraordinary challenge. We are therefore especially pleased that we completed the first phase as planned while continuing to provide our visitors with the shopping experience they expect,” says Project Manager Anton Gustav Birnbaum.

A Unique View of the Construction Site

The construction site itself has become a major attraction. Schools, industry professionals and many interested visitors are taking the opportunity to experience the project up close. From August onwards, Austria's largest construction crane—standing 60 metres tall—will be operating on site at Messepark. State-of-the-art construction technology and hundreds of people working together every day provide a fascinating insight into the complexity of a major construction project. Another highlight will follow soon: a viewing platform on the parking deck will offer visitors a unique perspective of the construction site.

Major Contracts Awarded to Regional Companies

Further important milestones have also been reached in the awarding of contracts. Building services contracts worth several tens of millions of euros have been awarded to companies from Vorarlberg. The contract for heating, cooling, ventilation and plumbing has been awarded to a consortium of regional specialists: Intemann and Stolz, Ender, Hörburger and Dietrich. Key technical components, including the ventilation systems, will also be supplied by Vorarlberg-based company Walter Bösch.

"For a project of this scale, the lowest price is not the only deciding factor. Quality, reliable collaboration and partners who can provide long-term support and maintenance are equally important," explains Project Manager Anton Gustav Birnbaum. "These regional companies know each other well, work closely together and will remain reliable partners for the future."

With a total investment of more than €200 million, the new Messepark is one of the largest construction projects currently underway in Vorarlberg.
