After years of waiting, the time has finally come. The building permit for the new Messepark has been granted, the detailed plans are currently being finalized, and the 200-million-euro project is set to begin in a few weeks. Shopping at Messepark will still be possible during construction, according to Messepark Managing Director Nicole Schedler: “Most of the stores will remain at Messepark, though some will be in different locations. We’re planning many highlights and surprises leading up to the opening of the first phase in early 2028.”

After Easter, the excavators will roll in: During the first phase of construction, the East parking lot near the Interspar and the adjacent building sections will be demolished. Excavation for the new underground parking garage will then begin here. From that point on, the Messepark and the Interspar will be directly and conveniently accessible via the parking deck and elevators, as well as via the West parking lot. The parking spaces that will be lost will be replaced by additional parking areas on the Roßmähder properties.

Intensive Preparations

Messepark Managing Director Nicole Schedler and her team have gone through an intensive preparation period. Their task was to organize shopping at Messepark as effectively as possible even during the two construction phases and to find transitional solutions tailored to each individual retail partner. The planned demolition and construction work was coordinated in detail with the future shopping options in the temporary spaces.

“We share a common goal”

Nicole Schedler is certain that managing a major construction project of this scale while simultaneously providing a shopping experience requires a logistical feat of masterful coordination from everyone involved. Personal discussions with the retail partners were a particular priority: “A complete new construction and renovation of a shopping center while it remains open brings changes. We support our retail partners by offering alternative spaces and making shopping during the construction period particularly interesting and varied.

Shopping Experience During Construction

Over the next few weeks, things will be bustling behind the scenes at Messepark. Preparations will begin as early as late February with the opening of the Media Markt in the building directly adjacent to the ÖAMTC. This standalone temporary location offers logistical advantages, as Media Markt requires ample space for the daily delivery and pickup of goods.

A new shopping mall is taking shape

The space that will become available on the first floor will then serve as the new home for all those shops that cannot remain in their original locations due to the construction work. Nicole Schedler: “Some shops from the mall in the eastern section will be moving here, but new brands have also signed up that want to be part of the Messepark even during the construction phase. And, of course, there will continue to be a diverse range of dining options.” The necessary storage space has also been arranged. Additional space will be rented at “Messe Dornbirn” during the construction period—but exclusively for storage purposes.

Parking and Traffic Solutions

As part of the new construction work, the location of the parking spaces will also change. Nicole Schedler emphasizes that during the construction period, just as many parking spaces will be available to customers at Messepark as before. “To ensure this, we have leased the adjacent lots—where parking was already permitted during trade fair periods—and paved them to make parking more convenient.” Additional parking spaces during the construction period can be found in the existing parking garage and at the new location directly next to Media Markt.

A dedicated traffic plan tailored to the respective construction phases ensures optimal flow for arrivals and departures. Temporary bus stops will be set up for public transportation.
